What is required?
Every city fire department has a little different requirements, but the most common across Canada is NFPA 1001: Firefighter Level I&II and NFPA 472: Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations certifications.
The program we recommend is the Training Division Fire Academy which bundles the 4 basic certificates into a program called Basic Fire Academy and successful candidates leave with what they need to apply to most Canadian Fire Departments. Once combined with an EMR program, this covers the basic Fire & Medical certifications to apply with departments such as the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service as well as cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Surrey, Edmonton, etc. etc.
The first part of training is doing the theory online at your own pace. The second component is completing a boot camp at Training Division in Texas, or one of the Canadian options available at the time. There have been Training Division courses completed in Crowley, TX at the main campus but students have also transfer to complete camps in Calgary, Alberta / Surrey, BC / Kimberley, BC and other Canadian cities as well. Through amazing relationships with local fire departments, TD can offer hands on experiences that are hand in hand with functioning fire departments and with what are considered the best instructors in the industry.
Now is the perfect time to take the course. Our students are still doing all the online components and even coming to boot camps as part of the “essential services” designations in both Canada and the USA. Students usually start the online components within 24 hours of signing up which they can do any day.
As for the COVID complications, there aren’t really any. We still have full camps in session including many many Canadians at out Texas camps. Students have one year to complete the online components and can book a boot camp beyond that year if needed.
Almost 95% of Training Division graduates are from Canada who return home with their certification to gain employment on local fire departments. Training Division has over 13000 alumni and graduates working in almost every major city in Canada. This program includes taking the theory components online at the student’s own pace followed by a 2 week boot camp in Texas. Students have up to one year to complete their online training which gives the maximum amount of flexibility possible. Most students finish in 3-4 months.
Training Division has been running 2 week boot camps for over 13 years and have an amazing system that fire departments around the world are super impressed with. I guess that is why Training Division is the choice for fire department members and chiefs to send their own children to us for training.
Students must obtain an 80% average on the online testing components and a 70% grade on the final State testing held on the final day of boot camp.
Training Division has almost 800 students each year from Canada with BC, ON, MB and AB being the most popular.
The tuition is $6295 CAD and includes all components other than textbooks, travel to Texas, navy pants and black boots required for boot camp. For those needing to break up payments into small pieces, we normally provide a payment plan of $2900 deposit then payments of $850 each of the following four months. The airport shuttle, all testing fees, meals, accommodations, training, and certification is covered by these fees. Not covered is your flight to Texas, books, navy pants and a pair of black boots.
There are really 2 parts to register: First, we gather the needed information to get you all set up with the online components. That is the following:
Date of Birth:
The second part is payment which can be done by eTransfer or credit card.
Once we partner both the data and payment, our amazing Admin team gets students all set up and on their way.
